Preference is given to minority residents of the City of Utica, New York, who demonstrate financial need and who have taken the initiative to personally improve their lives, and the lives of their families, through employment, training or other avenues. Non-minority residents of other communities in Oneida County, New York, may also be considered as alternates if they meet other criteria.
At present, an award of $500 is made at the beginning of each qualifying semester up to a total of four semesters. To be eligible for renewal of the scholarship, a recipient must maintain at least a 2.00 grade point average (C) and remain in good academic standing.
Recipients are selected by members of Daron’s family, with assistance from a committee of community residents. Scholarship proceeds may be used for tuition, fees, books, direct and indirect college expenses, in that order.
Daron’s family hopes, over time and with your assistance, to increase the size of the scholarship and the number awarded.
